About the Hymen

Latin name of hymen HYMENis. It is a thin structure located 1-1.5 centimeters inside the vaginal entrance. In its most common form, it is a semi-flexible, thin tissue with a small hole in the middle that allows menstrual blood and vaginal secretions to come out.

Physiologically, the hymen has no known special function. It is also thought that during the development of the fetus in the womb, while the sexual organs are forming, there is a border between the organs coming from above and below, and that it has a protective function against possible inflammation that may develop in the sexual organs. The flexibility of the hymen and the shape, size and even number of the hole in the middle vary from person to person. In rare cases, the hole in the middle of the membrane is so large that it cannot be detected during examination. there are almost no membranes one might think. In some rare cases, there is no hole in the membrane. In this case, menstrual bleeding constantly accumulates in the vagina and uterus, starting from the first bleeding in young girlhood, and in each menstrual period, the young girl complains of not having a menstrual period, but of feeling pain. In such a case, in order to prevent the young girl's health from being harmed, a small operation must be made to make a hole in the hymen and drain the blood inside.

Jumping rope, cycling, external contact with the genital area, scratching, etc. without inserting any object into the vagina. There is no change in the hymen and there is no bleeding.
Contrary to popular belief, there is not much pain in the rupture of the hymen during the first sexual intercourse, but more pain may be felt in women who have a thick membrane structure and, more importantly, who are not psychologically ready for sexual intercourse, who have not experienced sufficient foreplay before intercourse, and who are very afraid of this issue, but this pain is never unbearable. For some women, no pain may be felt during this process, or the pain may be less than the pain we feel when we cut our finger with a knife.
hymen Unfortunately, it is still perceived as socially important in some parts of the world and in our country. The fact that the hymen has not yet been broken is wrongly seen as evidence of the woman's virginity, that is, that she has not been with a man, and the absence of bleeding during the first intercourse is seen as evidence that that person has had sexual intercourse with a man before, and therefore tragedies occur from time to time. There is no test or similar method to show whether the hymen is torn or not. The condition of the hymen can only be understood through examination by a Gynecologist.

In women who cannot have sexual intercourse, the hymen can be removed by a Gynecologist with a minor surgery under anesthesia. It can be repaired by sewing if necessary.. When the membrane is stitched, it does not matter whether the rupture is old or new and how much intercourse has been had. Gynecologists and Obstetricians may refuse to perform a hymen examination unless they work as a forensic physician in an official institution, or even if they examine and provide verbal information. to report They have the freedom to refuse. Again, except for the letters received by the court decision, Gynecologists and Obstetricians are not obliged to inform anyone other than the patient about the results of the examination. as always Information between the doctor and the patient is private and not shared with anyone else.
