Acupuncture Application in IVF

in vitro fertilization acupuncture

acupuncture; It is a scientific treatment method that has been applied to human health for more than three thousand years and has become increasingly widespread as a result of intensive research conducted in the West in recent years.

Acupuncture aims to restore the health of the organism by regulating neural communication and establishing the balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic parts of the autonomic nervous system by applying stimuli such as needles and lasers to certain acupuncture points defined on the body. In addition, acupuncture treatment is effective in treating pain by secreting morphine-like substances called endorphins in certain parts of the central nervous system. Acupuncture has now begun to be used as a complementary medicine method in in vitro fertilization treatment. One of the important factors that prevent success in in vitro fertilization is the excessive stress in the expectant mother and the inability of the layer called endometrium, where the fertilized egg will attach and settle after the transfer, to reach sufficient vascular maturity and thickness.

With stimulation at certain points, the secretion of a chemical substance called beta-endorphin increases throughout the body. With this increase, the release of GnRH (gonadotropin releasing hormone) and indirectly the secretion of steroid and gonadotropin hormones produced by the body increases. In addition, after acupuncture application, blood flow to the uterus increases, the endometrium matures, and as a result, conditions that facilitate pregnancy in the uterus are provided.

Acupuncture method contributes to this layer inside the uterus, called endometrium, reaching sufficient thickness. Since acupuncture also has a balancing effect on the mental state, it largely eliminates this stress effect. Thus, the chance of success of expectant mothers who receive acupuncture treatment before and after in vitro fertilization increases more than those who do not receive acupuncture treatment.

According to research conducted in recent years, acupuncture treatment has become an increasingly common practice in in vitro fertilization clinics, as it has been shown that it increases pregnancy rates in couples undergoing in vitro fertilization treatment. This development has led to many new studies. Today, acupuncture treatment is offered to patients as an option in many in vitro fertilization centers in the USA.

After acupuncture, blood flow to the uterus increases, the endometrium matures, and as a result, conditions that facilitate pregnancy are provided in the uterus. It is thought that thanks to all these changes, the retention rate of transferred embryos increases.
