Vaginismus is a condition in which sexual intercourse cannot occur due to involuntary contraction of the vaginal muscles, or intercourse becomes extremely uncomfortable due to pain and burning sensations during intercourse. Due to uncontrollable contractions in the pelvic wall muscles surrounding the vagina, intercourse does not occur or cannot be completed.
Vaginismus patients cannot control these involuntary contractions, and contact with the vagina other than the penis, fingers, tampons, etc. is impossible. In addition to vaginal contraction, similar contractions may occur in the waist and leg muscles.
Vaginismus can be of two types;
-primer: There has been no intercourse or perineal contact.
-secondary: Although it was not a problem in the beginning, it emerged due to hormonal factors and trauma.
Menopause, surgical interventions, difficult births, miscarriages, abortions, painful examinations, harassment, etc. It may also develop after such situations.
Medication, surgical methods, hypnosis or similar complex techniques alone are not sufficient in the treatment of vaginismus. Treatments performed patiently by creating a regular program can provide couples with a painless and comfortable sexual life.
Vaginismus treatments usually cannot be completed in a short time, unfortunately it may take many years.
If couples under treatment also want children, assisted reproductive techniques are of course used. Since vaginal examination cannot be performed during the treatment, this problem can be overcome with the help of short-term anesthesia. During the egg enlargement period, this process is completed by performing some ultrasound scans abdominally and some vaginally under anesthesia. egg collection and embryo transferThe treatment is completed under short-term anesthesia.
Sometimes, women who only have painful intercourse can also contribute to vaginismus treatments by gently performing vaginal ultrasounds during treatment.
