The last stage that the embryo reaches before attaching to the mother's womb is called the blastocyst stage. Ready to attach to the uterine wall, very advancedIt is an embryo. Recently, by using improved laboratory environments, embryo viability has been further extended outside the mother's womb, and accordingly, today, higher pregnancy rates are achieved in in vitro fertilization centers. 5th or 6th day transfers has begun to become widespread. This is called Day 5 or blastocyst transfer.
The advantages of Blastocyst Transfers are the chance to select embryos with a higher probability of development and adherence, reducing the possibility of multiple pregnancy by transferring a small number of embryos, and freezing the embryos at the blastocyst stage, when they have the highest development potential.
Another benefit of blastocyst transfer is that the ability of the embryo to go to the blastocyst will give us an idea about the outcome of the pregnancy. In general, blastocyst transfer increases the pregnancy rate. However, the chance of pregnancy is low with embryos that do not reach the blastocyst stage.
Today, different features of the blastocyst are taken into account in order to increase success. The most important of these is the quality and developmental potential of the blastocyst, as in the 2nd and 3rd day embryos. Transferring the blastocyst of the best quality and at the most advanced stage of development to the patient will significantly increase the pregnancy rate. In addition, better results can be obtained by transferring the outer shell of the blastocyst with special methods, using the method used in our center. In order for the blastocyst to attach to the uterus, it must be stripped of its outer shell. In people who have previously undergone blastocyst transfer but have not been able to achieve pregnancy, there is a possibility that this sheath may not have been broken.
Methods that increase the success of blastocyst transfer are still one of the subjects that are intensively researched all over the world.
