The most important issue, not only for gynecological cancers but actually for all cancers, is the early diagnosis of cancer. Cancer cells in the bodymultiplying out of control cells and tend to spread at different rates for each cancer.
Some cancers spread more slowly metastasis However, some cancers are aggressive, meaning they spread very quickly. Many people who do not know enough about cancer and are afraid of the name think that cancer is an incurable disease. Although this belief is partially true for some fast-spreading cancers, in fact;
CANCER IS A TREAtable DISEASE.
However, the most important factor that makes cancer treatable is early cancer is recognition. Although the chance of cure for a cancer that has spread throughout the body is very low, there is a chance of cure of up to 90% for many cancers that are diagnosed early, that is, those that have not yet had the opportunity to spread. Therefore, the most important issue for gynecological cancers, as for all other cancers, is when to suspect cancer and to detect gynecological cancers at a treatable stage, that is, early diagnosis for what needs to be done.
Cancers of the uterus, cervix, ovaries and external genital organs They are grouped under the title of women's cancers and are described as the most important problems threatening women's health. actually breast cancer It is also considered among women's cancers in many countries. It should not be forgotten that breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women, and one of the main duties of a physician dealing with women's health is to protect his patients from breast cancer.
Ovary In all gynecological cancers except cancer, there is a chance of early diagnosis with a little attention. The best thing about gynecological cancers is that most of them are open to the external environment andearly finding is to give. Only ovarian cancer shows symptoms in advanced stages since the ovaries are organs located in the abdomen. Cervical and external genital organ cancers are generally far from life-threatening for women who go for regular doctor check-ups, and they are diagnosed and treated in the early stages. It is possible to detect uterine and cervical cancers early by examining the swab sample taken from the cervix (vaginal smear).
Smear gives us information about the cells shed from the cervix or vagina. However, it does not provide information about the entire cervix or the entire tissue. If cells that may be precancerous at various stages are suspected in the smear, then sample biopsies should be taken from the cervix and canal to see the true nature of this situation. The problem here is whether biopsies should be taken randomly or deliberately. In a randomly taken biopsy, taking a sample from a place where there is no lesion may cause the diagnosis to be missed or delayed.
There are a number of tools developed for this purpose. “COLPOSCOPY” With a device called colposcope, which consists of many lenses, we can see the vagina or cervix magnified many times and better define the lesion (problem). When using colposcopy, we also use some chemical solutions and their different reactions with abnormal cells. In this way, we have the chance to get a biopsy from the right place. With biopsies taken from the correct areas, lesions suspected as a result of the smear are confirmed and we can make more precise decisions about the treatment to be performed. Of course, colposcopic examination and biopsy procedures require further training and experience. Colposcopic procedures do not cause pain to the patient or require anesthesia.
It should not be forgotten that women who visit their gynecologists regularly and have the necessary tests done do not need to be afraid of cancer!
Wishing you trouble-free days.
